why do "resh"?
Liber Resh vel Helios sub figura CCXX

666 remarked that advanced practitioners could use this ritual to draw on the spiritual power of the sun. In my experience, this ritual properly performed has the further effect of converting the power of the physical rotation of the earth--which produces the effect of the motion of the sun--into the practitioner's spiritual aspiration to (or communion with) his or her star, i.e. personal genius. It effectively induces a current through the continual observation of the circular motion of the outer world, propelling the ritualist on a linear path of interior initiation. "O my darling, I also wait for the brilliance of the hour ineffable, when the universe shall be like a girdle for the midst of the ray of our love, extending beyond the permitted end of the endless One." --Liber LXV, IV:64

The key to all this success can be found in the oft-neglected points 5 & 6 of the ritual.

The practice rests on the work of 666 in practical comparative religion, applying the most potent techniques of the religions of the Old Aeon to the Work of the New. Let us thus witness to the power of our Father the Sun openly in the marketplaces and secretly in the chambers of our houses.

On the observation of point 5, I've noted that quite a few people perform an adoration that was taught to them by a friend or acquaintance rather than by their Superior.

And I've noted that quite a few people thoroughly omit to compose themselves to holy meditation.

I figured that's what you actually meant. You're right, of course. I think a lot of people consider this too time-consuming, but even 30 seconds of it would be beneficial.

I don't think I've ever seen this done when Resh is performed as a group practice. We need to do something about that.

In the Aum. Ha. Resh videos we closed each one with a different suggestion of a possible group meditation (although the meditation for midnight didn't make the final cut). The one for dawn involved getting out Liber Legis for a meditative reading, which I believe was a specific suggestion of 666 in this regard.

It's not difficult to either direct a meditation or just make explicit time for individual silent meditation as part of a group Resh.

666's later instructions regarding the signs for those who have "no grade" along with point 9 of Liber 124 make it evident that aspirants should undertake this work whether or not they have been received into A.'.A.'. Even in O.T.O. only members of at least the VIII° may approach the "Superior of the Order" as such, so how else are unpriviledged aspirants to identify a useful "Superior" for this purpose? Would an Abbot serve? And for those not so housed?

(If H.B. has issued any general instruction on this point for the benefit of O.T.O. members at large, I've missed it. It might have been a useful thing to include in the annotations to Magick.)

Good questions. I suppose each has to make the best of what they have, while aspiring to more.

Yes, that's a formula of general application--cousin in this case to "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good."

I made up things to do for 1-4 as well as 5. That was my practice for a few years. I think 6 always requires a measure of personal initiative, unless you're on a pretty rigorous guru-trip.

This Morning- I had the incredible experince of being LUCID in my dream- and viewed the SUN RISE over the house through a window-I stopped at the adorations- as the SUN rose with each vibration of the word- and the Ocean began to fill the house !

I think also- much illumination can come from understanding the simple chapter in the book of Lies called "The Mountaineer"

One begins with unconscious incompetence.
After a thousand tries, one reaches conscious incompetence.
After a thousand thousand, one attains to conscious competence.
After a thousand to the fourth power, unconscious competence, which is pure will.
